About Me

My photo
I was raised in California, where my family ranched along with my parents raising us 5 kids, sometimes a few extra with them involved in foster care. I remember as a little girl how I loved watching my Dad ride...especially the gritty horses. He has a special way with horses. I knew from a kid that I wanted to marry a Cowboy...so I did. Although I haven't been a Wyoming Wife for long, my husband and I live an exciting life together. Not only are we partners but were the best of friends. These are going to be stories which include my emotions (which as a female they seem to be on the fritz sometimes!), days gone bad, and days that ended absolutely perfect. All in all...this is just a journal of my crazy, beautiful life as a Wyoming Wife.

One time my brother roped a Turkey. We really are law abiding citizens. The turkey was relocated away from offices and made itself a new home down by the river. The last time I saw it, he was roosting on the roof of a truck. God bless that Turkey. The picture although is my pet turkey, the one that greets me every morning with fresh feces on my front porch. The one that gobbles at 4 a.m. and the one that talks back to me when I’m practicing my horrendous turkey call. He will gobble back to me even when I honk my horn. This turkey and I are buddies.

My baby sister wrote me a letter and put it in the mail…I see her everyday. Today I got the letter and blubbered like a kid in the driver seat of my truck. The letter was so sincere, something a sister understands. I think my favorite part was, “ I want to be just like you.” Oh and, “I’m looking forward to all the hundred more memories and fights so that when we’re old and in our wheel chairs, we can laugh about them together.” I love the word together. “I love you singing as loud as you can.” Just to let you know I can’t sing, but I can sing loud!

This is Joey and Marybeth, my parents take care of them. Marybeth loves Hannah Montana and Joey loves Sponge Bob, ask him to sing the song for you…he will! Today they competed in the State Special Olympics basketball games. They rock, they are funny and they are the biggest Glenrock Herder fans that have ever lived. Marybeth likes to wear her Mickey Mouse hat backwards when she is on the court.

Little Cody helped with the torch run, Joey was absolutely beat after. I think my Mom had to buy him a soda pop after. Little Cody is just perfect, but maybe I am just partial to him.

Take a Trip To The Kennels

Take a trip with Kody and I to the kennels!

This is my flower bed Kody and I made last Spring.  There are bulbs and seeds planted right now working their magic below the soil, the package said they should be here my mid-summer.
I cant wait.  Oh...and don't mind the kitchen spoons in there, that is sectioning off where I havent planted.  I will not use those spoons anymore...I promise!

This is our home...as you can tell we love America, and flowers.

This is where we keep the dog food, we buy dog food by the pallet.  Buying dog food in bulk saves money.  Kody did the math one day.  He is very logical and sits at the coffee table figuring out numbers and pounds amd sorts of things.  He's a cutie.

This is "Old Man Deano" He has earned every gray hair on his face.  When I feed him he tells me stories about Mountain Lions and Coons.  I love him so much that with his old age he now gets a winter coat.

This is Copper, he looks tough but he is a lover. He jumps up and dances with me like Lady Bird on King of The Hill.  I make sure we don't do that when were hunting unless we get a lion.  Then we can dance.

This is handsome Roscoe.  Mr. Floppy Ears.  He was once a house dog, but fate brought him to Kody to be a real hound dog.

This is Radar, were working on his manners.  We got him a few months ago...he sure is good looking!

This is blue eyed Emery.  He was a dog that was given to Kody.  Sometimes Emery is a grump, but he holds such a special place in my heart.  He is so proud of every lion he has ever caught, he stands like a statue for pictures and sometimes wants to be a lap dog.  (And Harley our blue feamle may be having his babies!)
This is Gypsy a dog we have had for just a few days.  She loads in the box just fine and I'm sure we will get along great!

Kody loves all the dogs but Harley is his pride and joy.  His "Dog Girlfirend".  She is cold nosed and adorable.  That describes her so well.  And she may be having puppies!
And this little cute dog is Waylon, my pride and joy.

Thank you for checking out our kennels!

I still have my Toes

I’m not sure what my winter activity would be if we didn’t have hounds and hunt big game. Maybe my hobby would be watching Oprah and then Dr. Phil while sipping hot chocolate in my Snuggie. Don’t laugh…I really have a Snuggie, and I adore it. And after I warmed up I would polish my toes a pretty pink.
Yeah right…In my real life we are chasing Mountain Lions, protecting sheep and cattle, getting pick ups stuck, pulling pick ups out of snow drifts, riding our ponies through snow drifts and wading ourselves through snow drifts. Did I mention snow drifts? Here is a sneak peek of our winter.
We start waking up before the rooster crows…3:30 to be precise. In the winter time I eat lunch at 9:00 a.m. sharp. I have already been up for 6 hours. Around noon, or whenever I lose all feeling to my toes we stop and have a fire and I eat another sandwich, Turkey with Colby Jack cheese and Sour Cream and Onion lays crunched in between the bread. This sandwich is a delicacy, we only have these when we are lion hunting, and they are delicious.

And after we have lunch and let our horses rest up for a day, we take the pick up. And usually get stuck in very hard crusted snow. I take pictures and ahh…shoot, I forgot my shovel, but Kody conveniently remembers it.

We find a lion track and put the dogs on it.

Sometimes we even catch a lion.

In  tree

In a rock crevice

In a hole

And even in a tree house….

Sometimes we take the Argo…the inventor of the Argo deserves a high-five.

Sometimes we don’t find a track, but the dogs find a bobcat.

And sometimes I just cant feel my fingers. Or my toes, or my lips, or my cheeks or my whole body. I love lion hunting, my pony "Lobo", Kody and of course Spring time.

Sometimes the dogs get sore feet, so Kody finds that soft spot in his heart and packs her out on the horse with him. I love this picture.

And I’m just satisfied that after a long winter of hunting, I still have a my toes. And also good friends, Mountain Lions, big canyons, turkey sandwiches, good horses and good hounds.

Kody and Helga

Kody is the best roper in the world…I think he could out rope Trevor Brazile. He is breathtaking, I love watching him throw big fancy loops, half way across the branding pen. It gives me butterflies. Kody has been butting heads with a Read Roan Mare, he calls her something inappropriate. I just call her Helga. She is stout, fast and a typical red head. Kody doesn’t but heads with her anymore. He has rode her hard gathering cows, tagging calves and finally to the point where he can rope and dally with out her having a hissy fit…a hissy fit Paris Hilton would throw if she couldn’t get a new Louis Vuitton purse. She doesn’t spook at the same pile of branches everyday, she will go through a gate without having to be heavily persuaded with a leather quirt. She has learned so much with my cowboy husband teaching her through it all. I’m not bragging or any thing, but I married the best man in the world.

This is how tough Helga is...I think she is asleep.

Kody is all smiles...I smile when I look at him too!

I love this picture so much! Thanks to my awesome sister in law Krystal for taking these pictures!

I Knew This Day Would Come

I wasn’t quite emotionally ready for the day when I woke up…I’m not sure why. I felt like I was on the edge of crying all morning. I think every lady has days like that. With Kody’s new job calving for one of the biggest cattle outfits, I haven’t really seen him. He comes home I feed him dinner, sometimes a wonderful 3 course meal and sometimes Dairy Queen. Anyways, Kody eats dinner watches a little bit of TV and crashes on the couch, I wake him up and help him find the way to bed.
I’m not sure if I was just tired of this boring routine we were starting to have but I felt like breaking down in the kitchen and frosting my Chocolate Zucchini cake with my tears. Along with everything else going on in my life, I decided to stop doing hair, completely and utterly cut it out of my schedule 100%. And take on my job full time running the store that my mom and I opened last July. That way I would have time to breathe, cook, clean and go to work with Kody. I hope the ranch doesn’t mind every Sunday and Monday it is official “Bring your wife to work day”.
5:00 am rolled around, it was a time I hadn’t seen in about a month seeing how we finished up lion hunting. I rolled around grumbled and still I was tired. I got dressed, Kody was up and ready…ready to roll. We headed out to the ranch saddled our horses, loaded them in the trailer and in no time we were out tagging calves. We didn’t have a lot that morning, maybe 5 or so. Kody does get a lunch break, we headed into town to grab a bite to eat and meet back at the barn around 1.
Jesus, one of the cowboys rides with us in the afternoon. Kody and I go one direction and meet up in the middle with Jesus. I knew this time would come for me, there was a calf that needed pulled. I had seen horses be born before, easily. Nothing that you had to run into a head catch, reach shoulder deep, pull out the legs and hook up this big metal thing with ratchets and a pulley. I was in for it. I knew this was all it was going to take to send my emotional day spiraling downhill into a dungeon of tears.
Kody subliminally gave me the job of the gate girl, he didn’t tell me this is what I was supposed to do, apparently I should just know these things. “Jordan, are you going to get the gate!?”
“Sure.” I got the gate, these two cowboys ran her into the head catch and Kody stepped back and let Jesus do the pulling. I was thinking to myself, get this cow and epidural, Kody we need a scalpel, gloves please. Are you ready momma cow, this should only take a minute…work with us and we will help you. Did she take Lamaze?…uhhh…probably not. I don’t have children but I think all of the estrogen and adrenaline went straight to my heart the moment I hooked on the pulley to the ring and started ratcheting out this little black baby calf while Jesus was pulling. Please don’t think I did the work, it was really Kody and Jesus…I was just the gate girl. The calf hit the ground the mom fell to her knees and I had to leave the calving barn in a blustering storm of tears rolling down my face. It was beautiful…and Kody thought it was disgusting and Jesus wasn’t quite sure why I was crying. Tender is a good word for me, not soft, but tender.

Love

This is Big Kody and Little Cody
They are a lot of like…more than just their names
They both love paisleys and cowboy ways
They like roan horses…or just plain ole’ broke horses
They both like their coffee black…Big Kody doesn’t mind a splash of baileys.
Little Cody likes to learn from Big Kody
And what is even better is both of them are my friends.

This is the man that loves me
His name is Kody
He doesn’t quite understand why I am so tender
But he loves me anyway
He tells me my boots aren’t wore out enough for a new pair
But I don’t listen
Sometimes he gets cranky in tight situations
So I just do what I need to do
Then he says sorry
This is Kody…the man that I love.

This is my little ‘big” brother Troyboy
He has red hair and likes Copenhagen
He will make you laugh
But has a tendency to make your blood boil
He loves his girlfriend very much
But what is wonderful is he is my brother
I am proud of Troyboy
I love him

This is the prettiest girl I know
Her name is Haley
She is tough and she is my friend
She dances to her own beat
She’s got rhythm
Her heart is big and she is smart
I am proud to call her my sis
I lover her

These are my parents
We never went without
They are in love
And we love them
My parents love their kids…
And they show their love everyday

Kicked Off Your Ride

Being married to a cowboy a houndsman and an outfitter all in one…I now I’m a lucky girl. It never fails I’m always riding the broke horse on our hunts, Kody is always riding horses that “Need some Miles”. Lucky for me, its because I’m to much of a pansy to ride anything that you have to man handle…I’m sure I could get the job done, I just say I’m blessed to ride finished horses. I take pride in the animals I ride, due to the fact that Dad broke them.
It never fails, we take a lot of hunters- people that don’t ride a whole lot, so I get kicked off my horse and thrown on someone else’s. Keep in mind they are very nice horses, but they aren’t mine. I’m just now getting used to the rhythm of “Hobo” the brown horse I have now taken over, due to the heart-wrenching passing of my Studly Yellow horse “Sonny” …he wasn’t a stud when I rode him…but he was a looker. Anyways…The hunter usually rides my horse. This is just something that I’ve learned having to ride different horses. I’m never 100% comfortable on riding them until after the first 20 miles.
The last hunt we went on, where we had to do a horse swap I rode a good horse. He was a black 5 year old. I was nervous, but that’s just me being a woman. When I’m riding a new horse, I always judge the horse by the bit he carries in his mouth. I think if Kody put me on something with a twisted wire snaffle, I would be in for a long day. I prefer, If I’m riding something new that they are capable of riding in a finished bit. In my mind, I think if it’s a finished bit, I should be safer.
It’s amazing how the female mind works, I know when a horse has a finished bit he is going to handle a heck of a lot better, because he has been worked with enough to upgrade from a snaffle, hackamore…etc.
This is just my little piece of information to other women who get kicked of their pony, because their husbands know they are more strong minded and capable of doing more than what they think.
